Nestled on the picturesque Pepin Island, Kawakawa Cottage is the perfect tiny house living experience! Just a 20-minute drive from Nelson, this cozy getaway accommodates up to 4 guests, making it ideal for friends or families who want to experience island life with all the comforts of a nearby city . Simply drive on our coastal road to enter and exit the island! No need to take a boat or ferry to get on Pepin Island.
You’ll have the entire tiny house to yourself : 1 bedroom, 1 loft, 1 bathroom, kitchen, sofa, outdoor deck and BBQ. There is a lockbox & key for you – arrive at your convenience!
Your Bedrooms :
1st bedroom has an Ecosa Queen Mattress and window. 2nd bedroom is a unique loft stay! To access the loft, simply pull out the ladder & climb up into your 2nd cozy bedroom. This loft also includes an Ecosa Queen Mattress and two side windows!
Your Bathroom :
The bathroom offers a shower and compost toilet. You will find instructions laid out for you!
Your Kitchen :
Includes a fridge, freezer, stove, sink, dishwasher, toaster, water kettle, coffee plunger, wine glasses, cutlery and cooking essentials. There are stools at the bar to sit and eat or enjoy the nearby sofa or outdoor seating area!
Outdoor Deck :
The front deck is a beautiful spot to relax, grill on the BBQ and take in the fresh air. If you fancy a stroll, you are only a few minutes walk from Cable Bay Beach!
Unique Details :
Kawakawa is named after a New Zealand pepper tree. The name means, “the bitter taste of the leaves”. This leaf is used for ceremonies, including removing tapu. It is also used for medicinal purposes and is known for its healing & restorative properties. It originates from the North Island of New Zealand.
Modern Conveniences :
Immerse yourself in nature with all the comforts of a beautiful tiny home – electricity included. Currently no wifi access but there is great cell reception on the island to use your mobile data. Wifi will be available from November 2024 onward.

When entering Pepin Island, you’ll find Kawakawa Cottage is just 50 meters before the car park, offering a blend of seclusion and accessibility.
